Easy Starburst Background Card Tutorial (Use Your Paper Scraps!)
This fun project uses the Rolling Waves stamps and dies, and I’ve used small pieces of Pool Party cardstock for the sunburst background for a fresh, beachy feel. I chose this color combination from the Colour Inspirations Challenge #207, which was a great combination for a beach theme.

The sunburst background is very striking with the diagonal lines, giving a very strong focal point to the project, and it’s quite easy to do.
How to Create a Sunburst Background: (video demonstration below)
- Cut 3-6 rectangles out of the paper/cardstock you want to use. Cut each of these from one corner to the opposite corner, creating triangles.
- Mark a starting point on the base card – in the lower left corner (as shown), or anywhere on the card.
- Arrange the triangles in spokes around the starting point.
- Cover the starting point with an image or images.

I liked the idea of using the blue for the rays, rather than yellow for sun rays. It’s fun to create the sun ray effect with the “water” portion of the project, just for something different.
As a cute contrast, the towel is yellow like the sun, even with little sun prints on it. I loved how all the traditional beach elements are here, but in a somewhat unexpected arrangement.

I’ve made this quick video demonstrating this technique (with variations); I think you’ll love how easy this is, and Subscribe to my YouTube Channel for weekly tips and project ideas!

I like the idea of using paper scraps for a background. Do you have any tips for color combinations that work well together?
It’s a good idea to use the Stampin’ Up! colour coach (wheel). Otherwise, an easy way is to take the colour combinations from the printed papers. 🙂
