Heat embossing never gets old—it’s always a crowd-pleaser! That magical moment when the powder melts? Still gets me every time. For today’s share, we’re stepping it up a notch with a fun technique called emboss resist. I’ll be using the Beautiful Butterflies stamp and die set for these samples:

For this first sample, I blended Lost Lagoon and Blackberry Bliss—such a gorgeous combo. Blackberry Bliss with gold is one of my all-time favorites. It just has that classy, elegant vibe, don’t you think?
To start, I heat embossed the butterflies using clear embossing powder. You might be wondering, why clear? Honestly, I find it resists the ink a bit better than white embossing powder. But if white is what you’ve got, that’ll still do the trick.
Once the embossing was set, I blended Lost Lagoon and Blackberry Bliss ink right over the top. The ink soaks into the Basic White cardstock beautifully, while the embossed butterflies stay shiny and resist the color—so they really pop through. It’s such a cool effect and super satisfying to see it come to life!

To add a bit more depth and interest to the background, I stamped the text image from Elements of Text (love that vintage vibe) using Blackberry Bliss. Then I layered in the leaf image from Textured Notes with Pretty Peacock—such a nice contrast, right?
Just like before, the Basic White cardstock takes on the ink, but the embossed butterflies resist it. So now those stamped images look like they’re sitting behind the butterflies, almost like you built in a bit of dimension without any extra layers. It’s a super simple trick, but it really levels things up visually.
Try this fun technique in other color combinations, like Balmy Blue and Highland Heather:
