It’s time for the monthly Global Video Hop, and this month’s them is home decor. I think that stretched all of us just a little bit, but it’s good to get outside the comfort zone now and again.
I decided to try my hand at something my youngest daughter, Sofie, made for a friend last Christmas: altering a candle with gemstones and crystals!
First, I used the Gilded Gold Leafing on the rim of the candle jar. This was a lot of fun, and so effective. I left mine more rustic looking, but you could achieve a more smooth, solid finish if you wanted instead.
Next, choose the elements you wish to add to the top of your candle. I chose to use gemstones and crystal chips, along the the Stampin’ Up! Bumblebee Trinkets.
Sofie and I also went for a walk at Takapuna beach and picked up seashells to add to our candles. I love the mixing of so many natural elements! And it’s special to have a gift or home decor piece with a little bit of your own culture and country included.
I’ve been learning a little bit about crystals, and the different types and meanings behind them. It’s a nice way to really personalize a gift – choose crystals and gemstones that have particular meanings for the person who will receive it.
For this candle, we gently broke a few of the shells. I’ve still included the Bumblebee Trinkets, and this time added a few pearls.
Each candle is wrapped with the Diamond Weave ribbon, and then finished off with a perfectly coordinating tag. Tags are so easy with the Tailor Made Tag Die set.
I’ve also used the Plenty of Patterns masks, a Blending Brush, and the Delivering Cheer stamp set on the tags.
