Cute Alternative to Flowers: Pinwheels! Video Tutorial
Today’s share is a cheerful card featuring pinwheels! Not only are these a great way to use scraps, but they are a fun, interactive alternative to flowers.
No special tools needed for this one – just a square paper scrap, scissors, adhesives, and a gem to finish.

For this cheery sample, I used the Beautiful Ordinary Life papers. These ones are fun; they are soft watercolors on one side, and bold black and white prints on the other.
I selected three prints and made three pinwheels. You can’t see it in the photo, of course, but the middle pinwheel is on a nail spinner, so it spins around when it’s picked up. Fun! I mean, a pinwheel is just begging to spin!

All you need is a square of double sided paper. For this one, I used 1 3/4″ square, so it’s a great way to use up your scraps.
How to Make a Paper Pinwheel:
- Fold the square of paper in half on the diagonal. Open out and fold on the opposite diagonal. You should now have two crease lines in your paper, intersecting in the middle.
- Using scissors, cut from one corner along the score line just to 1/8″ before the middle intersection. Repeat on all four corners.
- Fold one corner into the middle and adhere. Continue folding down every other corner until four are adhered in the center. Finish with a gem, brad, or other embellishment.
