Beautiful Gallery – Vintage Style Card with Watercoloring
On last week’s Facebook Live, I shared the Beautiful Gallery Suite, a fabulous collection of vintage-style stamps, dies, papers, and embellishments. Today’s share is the card I made on the video (keep watching to the end for even more samples), featuring all the elements of the suite plus some simple watercoloring.
This project was inspired by both a sample in the Stampin’ Up! catalogue, and also by Sketch #1 in the Design Spark Card Sketch Book. Once I had all the products in front of me, following the sketch made it really quick and easy to come up with a card design.
The Gallery Blooms frames die (cuts at least two frames at once!) is a great element for both memory keeping projects and for cards. I like this element to ground the flowers here, but also add that dark contrast to the Cloud Cover card base with the much darker Secret Sea.
I heat embossed the flowers in Black Embossing Powder. It’s not essential, but I do like to heat emboss when watercoloring; the “walls” the texture of the heat embossing helps keep the water contained to the image.
I played a little and mixed 50/50 Old Olive and Smoky Slate to create the color for the leaves. Adding that little bit of gray to the green toned it down to suit the more vintage style. It also matched the Beautiful Gallery paper I used for the sentiment much better.
It’s just another reason to have the little ink refill bottles for your ink pads: use them for both watercoloring and also to change the colors to suit your project.
