One Card, Four Skies: My Favourite Night Sky Techniques
This month the All Star Design Team is featuring the Lights of Aurora Suite, and this is just a fantastic set to pair with creative sky background techniques. The tree skyline dies are fantastic for a simple card, but even a simple card layout can feature fabulous and creative ways to use your inks.

For all the samples, I used the same ink colors so it would be more of a clear contrast between the different methods. On this sample, I just blended on the ink colors with a blending brush, and then splattered a bit of water over top to get the “stars”.
Ink colors are Fresh Freesia, Berry Burst, Gorgeous Grape, and Night of Navy. I also used a bit of Memento Black around the edges.

For the second trial, I used Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper, and watercolored on the same four colors. I then splattered on a bit of the Whisper White ink for white stars.
For this technique, it’s a little easier to get the colors to blend nicely. It’s easy to control how intense the color ends up.

Next up I tried a little ink dragging. This is where I really did just drag the ink pad down the paper. For the top sample, I used the same four colors, and the bottom on is just black. This technique in these colors feels quite moody.

This sample is a combination of the first and third methods, and is my personal favorite of the bunch! I think I need to use this on a layout; I love how it came out.
Use Blending Brushes to apply the four colors, same as in the very first sample above. Then drag the Tuxedo Black Memento ink pad vertically across the blended colors. So simple, and so effective!

For this one, I added a crescent moon I punched out with the 2″ Circle Punch right over top of the inking. I also added just a bit of clear embossing powder to the black tree silhouettes – just in experimenting what different methods looked like.
Add a few of the pretty Frosted Dots to add just a little shine and texture, too.

And this final sample is the quickest of all: simply use the pre-printed Lights of Aurora papers. They are designed to make beautiful aurora backgrounds, and are quick and ready to go!
