I grew up around motorcycles, so I have an affinity for the Legendary Ride bundle. I love all the detail on the motorcycle dies!
For today’s project, I want to share with you a fun embossing folder technique with the Metal Plate folder:
For the background, I’ve used the Metal Plate embossing folder; it’s a great match with the motorcycle images. But I wanted it in stripes, like tire tracks. It gives a different effect altogether with this folder.
How to Partially Emboss with an Embossing Folder
- Create a fairly thick shim, such as two pieces of cardboard backing glued together.
Some experimentation for thickness may be required.
- Place the shim inside the folder. Place the cardstock behind or in front of the shim.
The way the layers are stacked will affect the end result. Just experiment to see what you like best.
- Close the folder and run through your embossing machine.
You will need to adjust the plate “sandwich” since the folder is now much thicker than usual.

I’ve also created a short video showcasing three ways to use this technique for your next project. I hope you are inspired to use your folders in a different way for even more creative possibilities!
