DIY Washi Tape: Clean and Simple Card Layout
Today’s share is a fun one – an idea I used to make three different versions for you! I based all three around the fun idea of making your own faux washi tape with your printed papers, a quick idea you can create in minutes.

The first version features the Gears and Textures bundle – a personal favorite in any color. I find these gears so fun, easy to layer, and something really quite different.
The faux washi tape is made from the Mixed Up Patterns paper pack, which is a nice set, but you can also use any colors for this simple, effective layout.

To make the Faux Washi Tape with your patterned papers, follow these simple steps:
- Cut the paper to about 3/4″ wide. Cover with Scotch Magic tape.
- Tear the ends, if desired.
- Soak in water for about 3-4 minutes.
- Gently roll off the other side of the paper and the middle layers until the desired opacity is achieved.
- Let dry.

For the next version, I used the Lovely & Beautiful papers, and paired them with the Help Me Grow dies for a fresh, spring project.
I found papers with a white background or lighter colors seemed to work best. I tried this technique on red printed paper, for example, and was unable to get the translucent effect.
This is a great layout for a clean and simple project.

For my final diy washi project, I used the Lovely Blossoms papers and the Lovely Arrangements flowers. I just love how these turned out, likely because Cloud Cover is such a great color, even for flowers.

I thought solid blue flowers would overpower the clean and simple design and the soft effect of the “washi tape”, so I simple outlined the flower details and splattered a little to fill.
This is an easy technique you can try in your coloring with Stampin’ Blends.
