10 24 09_0325_edited-1 One of my customers and a dear lady gave me this Christmas card after she enthusiastically described the technique.  Isn't she sweet?  I had never seen a recessed card before, so she generously made up a sample of it for me.

Ever notice how our styles and preferences evolve?  This is the sort of style I'm going for these days – clean, striking, yet including thoughtful details and techniques.  I like it.

And of course, the Season of Joy stamp set is just always a winner.  Thanks, Narelle!

Supplies Used:

Stamps: Season of Joy  set of eight  $60.95

Colours: Chocolate Chip, Old Olive, Basic Black,

Other: dsp from another source, craft knife, dimensionals

The second card is from my dearest friend who is really my sister from a different mothe10 24 09_0326_edited-1 r (and father), Melinda.  We grew up together, most years joined at the hip. We went to University togehter and for the most part, got into trouble togehter, too.  I miss her dearly; please sign my peittion to get her to come visit me!

She made me this birthday card and the simplicity is quite nice, don't you think?  The idea of a one layer card and then layering on inks instead makes for an easy, quick, and elegant project.  And a great one to showcase a couple of techniques – here making and sponging and the stamping with markers techniques.  Thanks, Melinda!  Love you!

Supplies Used:

Stamps: Eastern Blooms set of five  $46.95

Colours: Chocolate Chip, More Mustard, Bashful Blue, Really Rust, Ruby Red

Other: Crystal Effects, More Mustard ribbon

Guestartist  Sorry this is a day late!  I travelled all day yesterday and missed the boat on getting this out.

Elaine has taken the bits of pretties Kit and the Soft Subtles Card I sent her and made three beautiful cards for us this week!

The first card using Sage Shadow is stamped in  brown and gold and its beauty is in its simplicity. The rose bloom is stamped onto gold paper, cut out and applied over the top of the original image.  C__Documents and Settings_Elaine and Harold_Application Data_FUJIFILM_FinePixViewerS_Temp_0922-164909_Samples 001

The second card using Pink Pirouette- made like a giant tag and coloured with chalks. Again the rose bloom is stamped onto pink card and this time embossed before chalking, cutting out and applying over the original image. Prettied up with a gold brad, gold thread and crystals from the Pretties Kit.

The third card with So Saffron is stamped in brown and completely embossed. The image and the small flower from the Pretties Kit is painted with Twinkling H2O's. I threaded pearls and silver 'oat' beads onto the eylet pin piercing the card for a nice finishing touch.

Beautiful work, Elaine, and a super example of how varying one theme can yield a great set of cards!

This month the Design Challenge team was given some items from the Pretties Kit – a hat 10 06 09_0262_edited-1 pin, some pearl and crystals, and some silk flowers.  They were also given a selection of cardstock – Sage Shadow, Pink Pirouette, and So Saffron.

Tilly has used the Fifth Avenue Floral here to create a soft background for her sweet picture.  I have used that set heaps – it makes a great focal image and also a fantastic background when used in softer colours . . . although Black and White would be stunning, too.  It's one of those sets that is way more versatile than meets the eye.

The hat pin is used to create the "title" – a very clever idea for a card!  I like her idea here of combining a bit of scrapbooking into a card for a very personal touch!

Thanks, Tilly!

I feel SOOOOO blessed!

I have never received so many birthday wishes ever in my life – true!!  Between my family, Stampin' Up! family, and Facebook, I felt particularly loved this year.

I wanted to share here some of the beautiful cards I received:

This beauty is made by Karen Rogers and is a shutter card.  I haven't made one of these myself yet, but the effect is fantastic!  Great Friend is a beautiful stamp set and the matching papers have not been my personal favourites, but they look stunning here.  She's got a lot of talent that girl.

Next is an elegant number by Julia Leece.  Sahara Sand and Riding Hood Red – what a beautiful combination.  And yes, I need to get my crimper out more often.  Very nice, Julia.

Donna B. sent me this one for my birthday and don't you just love how she's done up this flower?  My first thought was that it would make a fabulous Layout embellishment; what do you think?  Love it Donna!

This one made me laugh.  Janine P. made me a birthday "treat" with a mushroom and carrots!  Don't you love it?  She knows me too well!!  Very creative, Janine, and yes, I did eat it!

Another stunner by Merilyn I. using lots of embossing, the Great Freind stamp set and the gorgeous Parisian Breeze cardstock.  She went all out on this one – I love the En Francais set embossed here in the background on the confetti cream cardstock.

This last card was not specifically a birthday card, but a friend to friend card by our NZ famous Tilly McLeod.  I thought it was so nice – the colours are great!  That's another thing I don't use nearly enough – the metallic card we have.  Yes, we do have metallic cardstock (page 130).  And blast from the past: the first thing I ever ever bought from Stampin' Up! was a jar of Classy Copper embossing powder.

I also received some lovely soaps from Jane T.  how did she know I wash my kids mouths out with soap?  They will appreciate the fruity "flavours". What a mean mother . . . .

Thank you all for making my life so sweet!

Thank you Anne, for this beautiful card!

08 31 09_0200_edited-1 I thought this was a lovely sample – simple and elegant.  I'm not sure if you can see it from the picture, but her cutting out of the flowers is amazing!  Such fine attention to detail.

The sentiment stamp is from the hostess set Sweet Little Sentiments.  I never thought that particular one would be sent to me – but feel so honoured it was.

Thank you all for your love!

Random Acts of Kindness.

So many of my downline and customers area so kind and send me cards of good wishes and encouragement.  I am so blessed!

While I was away in Noosa Heads, one of my downline, Karen (who is consistenly thinking of others) organised for some to send us congratulations cards on acheiving such a grand reward.

08 30 09_0190_edited-1 Jo Spenceley of Gisborne made me this very sophisticated Vanilla and Kraft card using rub-ons and the big silver brads.  Very elegant!  One of my good friends and customers' daughter made the baby thank you card – also very cute and simple.  The cool Pumpkin Pie/Tangerin Tango card was made by the sweet Angela.  She's cleverly used both embossing and Dazzling Diamonds to make a spit image.

08 30 09_0191_edited-1 The white card here was clever – Jo of Rangiora punched out a scallop circle in the front of the card and slipped a bright yellow flower behind for a cute peek-a-boo style.  My dear Jock made me the brown textured card – complete with the boy scout symbol – after our stamp camp at the scout lodge!  I wonder if he did that on purpose?  And the Tangerine Tango card was made by the big-hearted Karen Rogers, offering congratulations on the trip.  I love the colour combination she's used here.

Thank you all very much!!  All the cards and emails and hugs really make me happy.

Lots of love to you,

Noosa! Day Four

08 21 09_0167_edited-1 Yesterday, our last day in Noosa Heads, was full on busy!  This day was my compromise with Jared; I much prefer to lounge around, but he loves to go and see and do.

We joined a group of 15 others and rented a four wheel drive "bus" that took us to Fraser Island, an Island made completely of sand dunes.  The driver was entertaining and interesting, which was a pleasant surprise.  The island itself was fascinating; we all were half expecting a T-Rex to turn up at any moment. 08 21 09_0170_edited-1 I enjoyed hearing what he had to tell us, but mostly I enjoyed the company of the others on the bus.  Okay, I admit I got a little nauseated with the bus rocking and weaving through all the sand, but overall it was a fun trip.

08 21 09_0164_edited-1 We got to stop in a few places, one being at this fresh water lake with an amazing beach!  It reminded me of Rarotonga and the incredible beaches there.  Except that the water was cold.  All the boys got in and all the girls sat on the beach and watched them not be "shown up" by anyone else.  Boys are so funny!  When one got in, the others were not about to stand around and say it was "too cold" . .

08 21 09_0171_edited-1

Another stop was to take a photo with this enormous tree!  I have never been to the Redwoods – this was definately the largest tree I have personally ever seen.

08 21 09_0174_edited-1

08 22 09_0153_edited-1 We got back to the hotel with just 50 mintues to clean the sand out of all the nooks and crannies before our big surprise farewell dinner.  Transformed, we were taken by bus to . . somewhere . . . and were met with these beautiful cars!!  08 22 09_0156_edited-1 Wow!!!  What a total treat!  And how thoughtful of Janiel, our event organiser, to throw in such a feature that would be so fun to many of our male guests.

08 22 09_0158_edited-1 Jared and I were escorted with Dave Baugh and his wife, Jennifer, in a 1946 Bentley to our farewell dinner location – the Plantation restaurant.  The backseat of that car was like sitting in a lounge chair.   The restaurant was also incredible!  I have never been so spoiled in my life.  Okay, this place was like a museum of the 1940's – an old plantation house that was just beautiful.  We enjoyed canapes and drinks while we explored the house AND got to look through five telescopes at the stars and planets.  Janiel had organised an astronomer to be there to explain what we were viewing.  Just amazing.  That could have been a night unto itself!  Janiel had also arranged for white pashimas at each lady's seat – to wrap around if the evening got chilly.  The amount of thought put into this event was overwhelming!

08 22 09_0159_edited-1 The dinner was great, of course with all kinds of amazing foods that we never make at home for ourselves.  I loved spending time chatting with so many of the Australian demonstrators, too – just getting to know the real people behind the names and reputations is really special.  I won't start naming people because I'll inevitably leave someone out, but let me just say that there are some really genuine, kind, talented, inspiring women amongst us.

08 22 09_0160_edited-1 The night ended with two gifts left in our rooms – the first a box of cookies and milk which I didn't photograph because they were gone too quickly. The second was this beautiful Chocolate brown Stampin' Up! bag.  Oh my goodness, we are so spoiled!

Now I'm on my way home, back to see my kiddies and to see many of you this week.  Thank you again for a fantastic week – love and hugs to you all,
