Happy Birthday Card: Stamping with Water Technique

Like
Like Love Haha Wow Sad Angry

Today’s share is the birthday version of a Christmas card I shared a few weeks ago, featuring both the Tasteful Textures Bundle and the Stamping with Water technique:

This was actually such a fun card to teach! It’s like a little magic to stamp with water and watch the image appear . . .

Steps to stamp with water:

  1. saturate your cardstock with ink, usually by sponging it on
  2. spritz your stamp with water
  3. Stamp firmly
  4. Let dry to get the full effect

I’ve used the Tasteful Textures bundle for both the flower stamps and the flower “cut away” dies to create this window background.  I just love the colour combination here, too, of Coastal Cabana and Poppy Parade. I don’t often like bright cards, but sometimes it really is just the thing!

I hope you give this card and/or this technique a try!

New items added to the Clearance Rack this morning! Check it out before they’re gone!

Colour Inkspiration Blog Hop – A Good Man Meets Cookies in a Jar!

Welcome to another Colour Inkspiration Blog Hop!  This fortnight’s challenge is a beautiful blue scheme with Pretty Peacock, Blueberry Bushel, Coastal Cabana, Shaded Spruce, and Silver Foil:

I had a reason to make a little gift for a man who helped me out a few weekends ago, doing some clean up on my behalf so I could race back home for my youngest daughter’s graduation.  So I made him a Cookies in a Jar gift:

I made him a personalized tag using the A Good Man stamp set (a great one to have in your stash!) paired with an upcoming special stamp set called Beautiful Moments.  I thought the words were just perfect; and what man doesn’t like to hear that he’s been both helpful and appreciated?

I watercoloured in the tag with our challenge colours and use a bit of silver foil to reinforce around the tag top.  I thought this beautiful combination of blues and greens was great for this particular image.

Product List

Now I know you all want the recipe!  This particular jar was extra large, so I DOUBLED the following, but this recipe below is the right size for your standard large Mason jar:

1 1/2 c flour

1/2 c oats

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 c each of brown and white sugar

fill the rest of the jar with chocolate chips, nuts, coconut, etc

On the tag, you need to tell them to mix it with 1 egg, 1 tsp vanilla, and 175 g softened butter.  Bake 180 for 9-12 minutes.

I hope you both enjoy the rest of the hop and make your own creation with these colours and share it in our Facebook group!

Daisy Lane for a Quick Watercolored Birthday Card

It’s Friday and I am looking forward to sharing scrapbooking with some of you in Hamilton tomorrow.  I’ve had two weeks off for the school holidays and after a very quick trip to a conference in the USA, and I’m ready to get back into teaching!

Today’s share is actually a card I didn’t make, but rather one of my team, Sally Robertson.  She shared this at the last Extravaganza, and I thought her work was really well done.  It’s a simple concept, but so effective!

Create a watercolor wash in the background by quickly loading up an Aqua Painter with a small amount of ink and plenty of water and quickly covering the background.

Once dry, you can add your stamped images.  Make sure it’s completely dry; our classic inks are waterbased, so any amount of dampness will cause the ink to bleed or at least become a little blurry.  The low setting on your Heat Tool is perfect for drying things without melting them (you’d want the higher “melt” setting for embossing powders).

I was quite taken with the flower here and the idea behind it; it’s not something I think I would have created on my own.  Our guests made their “own paper” by sponging various inks onto Whisper White, and then splattering water to create the droplet effect.

I must remember to make my own papers in these various, cool ways when I want something unique or specific!  IMO, all crafters need a good stash of inks for this type of thing exactly.

Supplies for this card include the Daisy Punch, the Medium Daisy Punch, the Daisy Lane stamp set, and an Aqua Painter.

Beautiful Friendship Mini Album – Great Small Gift for Birthdays and Christmas!

Like
Like Love Haha Wow Sad Angry

It’s October!  And today’s share is a re-make of a great little “A Good Man” mini album I shared before Father’s Day in a more masculine style.  It’s such an easy little book to make, but with such an impact, so I wanted to remake this one more suitable for general purposes:

The stamp images on the front are from the Beautiful Friendship stamp set, which is a really great one for quick projects!  Large, solid images are wonderful for when you want to add a lot of colour by layering images in a short amount of time.

I’ve used Rococo Rose, Mint Macaron, Rich Razzleberry, So Saffron, and Night of Navy to create the front.  I paired those colours up with the Rectangle Stitched Shape Framelits . .. I don’t know how I crafted without those!  I just love them and seem to have them out on my crafting table permanently!

As you can see, the album itself is basically a card with some extra pages included. It doesn’t take long to make and is just such a personal, special gift for someone.  Especially for that person who doesn’t want “stuff” for Christmas and would prefer the more personal, thoughtful gift.

The full instructions for the construction of this album are available HERE, although the embellishing in the instructions is for the watercoloured image.  Simply replace the watercolouring for the solid images in the Beautiful Friendship stamp set, or with the images that best suit your purposes.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  And the new October All Stars Tutorial Bundle is now ready – gets your 12 Tutorials FREE with any order of $50 or more with me during October!

August All Stars Team Blog Hop – Come Sail Away Masculine Double Layout

Like
Like Love Haha Wow Sad Angry

Welcome to the August blog hop with the All Stars Team!

You’ve landed in New Zealand with Jacque Williams and I am glad to have you here!  It’s a cold, wintry night tonight – the perfect weather for crafting away!

My share this month features the Come Sail Away Suite and I’ve chosen to create a double page layout with more masculine possibilities:

This is my eldest daughter and her friend. I wanted to make the page a little more general .  . as who knows how these relationships will ultimately turn out!

The first page has the main photos and features a little journalling pocket.  I paired the Sweet Silhouette Dies with the Come Sail Away Bundle here. I just love the words in the Sweet Silhouette die set and the “adventure” with a pop of Real Red was just perfect.   These two love to create adventures together!

The pocket has strips of leftover Designer Series Paper (don’t we all end up with a bunch of strips?!) and a little stamping with the All Wired Up background stamp, too.

I chose words from the Silhouette Scenes stamp, which fit quite nicely with the adventure theme of this layout.  They were just perfectly with the dies from the Sailing Home bundle here.

The second page is less detailed, but pulls over all the same coordinating elements to tie the two pages together.  Eventually, I used the lined paper on the far right to do more hand written journalling.

I felt these colours needed that splash of red, which also worked in with the photographs.  This red anchor is just so cute – I can see this for a little girl, even, or a baby card.

Supply list below:

The All Stars team has also written up 12 tutorials for you!  These 12 tutorials are FREE with any order from me of $50 NZD or more during August or you can buy August only or a six month subscription below:
